Spring Valley Extra Strength Probiotic
While not the most thorough or potent probiotic supplement on the market, we had to give Spring Valley an acceptable rating for their best-of-the-basics supplement. Including several strains of lactobacillus and bifidobacterium, the minimum strains needed to see any kind of expected results.
Overall Rating
What to expect from the strains
These strains tend to be used to target the lower bowel, but in this case seem to be directed more towards general digestive health. While they’re not housed in an enteric-coated capsule, they are strains that are acid resistant, so they are likely to move past the stomach to populate the small intestine. You can expect relief from digestive discomfort as well as reduced bloating and diarrhea from these strains.
The Good
Spring Valley Extra Strength Probiotic includes acid-resistant strains and should effectively populate the lower intestine. With 10 Billion CFU, it meets the minimum effective dosage and offers a guarantee of potency until the expiration date.
The Bad
While it covers the basics, the CFU count is relatively low and the strains are the most common strains. It would be just as cost effective for consumers to get a product with more thorough digestive coverage and a higher CFU count. Even though it’s advertised as “extra strength,” this probiotic is one of the lowest-potency multi-blend probiotics on the market.
